“Her”
In early 2026, I began work on a project titled “Her.” The idea was simple; I found that three of the open verse challenge renditions of JVKE’s song “Her” could fit into a story. The original verse by JVKE, the version by Annika Wells, and the version made by JVKE’s brother ZVC.
The first drawings of this project were actually meant for something entirely different. I had seen an animated film recently and wanted to capture a cinematic feel while keeping it simple. So I invented two characters originally named Mark and Kathy. The setting was undecided but going to be heavily influenced by 1940s and 1960s classrooms.
This Idea was left when I had the idea for “Her.” I then created the first concept for the actual project. I still go back to this drawing every time for reference
The Idea
It all began when a friend when a friend reccomended me a song. The song was “Her” by JVKE; it was catchy and had heartfelt lyrics. I eventually found out that there were other versions, and 3 particularly stood out to me. I realized that there was a story that could be told with all three versions of the song, and that I could make it. So I did. I drew up concept art, invented a story, and got to work animating it into a short film. Suddenly my doodles came to life.
Daniel would be the first character introduced. Part one, which would focus on him, would be about his struggles primarily with relationships and his new friend Britta, who was struggling with her own issues. He can help her, and eventually they grow close, mutually supporting eachother till they are ready and then get engaged and marry.
Britta would be the second character introduced. She was struggling with anxiety and internal conflicts before she met Daniel, and he helps her become a whole person.
And finally, Mark, Britta’s father, would join the film in Part 3. Here I would explore both the joy of Mark’s pride in his grown-up daughter but also the sadness as he willingly gives his daughter in matrimony to Daniel, who has won his respect and her heart.
